What the Converted Figure Means

At 123.3 taka to the dollar, a $60,000 US salary is Tk 7,398,000 a year — about 74.0 lakh taka, or Tk 616,500 a month. Per hour, across the 2,080 hours in a conventional US work year, it is Tk 3,556.73. Change the dollar figure in the box above and every number moves with it.

Two things that figure is not. It is not take-home pay: a US salary is taxed in the US first, and the transfer into a Bangladeshi account takes its own cut. And it is not what the money is worthin Bangladesh — local prices sit far below US prices, which pushes the real value of the salary up rather than down. The Dhaka section below puts that in context.

One quirk worth naming, because it makes the number easier to sanity check: taka figures this large are read in lakh (100,000) and crore (10 million) at home, not in millions. Tk 7,398,000 is 74.0 lakh taka, and the tables below stay in full digits so they line up with a bank statement rather than with conversation.

BDT to USD: Bangladeshi Salaries in Dollars

Pay in Bangladesh is quoted per month, so this table starts there and works back to an annual dollar figure — useful when you are weighing a local offer against a dollar one:

The Channel Changes the Number

Bangladesh is one of the few places where how the money arrives changes what it is worth, and by enough to matter. The government pays a cash incentive on inward wage remittance that comes through a bank or a licensed mobile financial service channel: 2% from July 2019, raised to 2.5% on 1 January 2022 and still paid. It is added on top of the converted amount, so it works as a discount on the whole transfer rather than a rebate on a fee.

$5,000Tk 616,500Tk 15,413Tk 631,913

On the reference salary, the incentive is the difference between Tk 7,398,000 and Tk 7,582,950a year — Tk 184,950, or roughly Tk 15,412 a month. That is the same order of magnitude as the spread a transfer provider takes, which is why the two have to be weighed together rather than one at a time.

One distinction to get right before you count on the 2.5%. It is a wage earner scheme. Earnings from freelancing and from IT-enabled service exports fall under a separate export cash incentive regime, with its own rate, its own documentation, and its own list of eligible platforms — and those terms have been revised more than once. Plenty of people have assumed the two are the same scheme and budgeted for money that never arrived. If your dollars are service-export income rather than wage remittance, ask your bank what currently applies to your case instead of taking a percentage from a blog post, this one included.

The cost pulling the other way is the spread. Providers quote a rate below the 123.3mid-market rate used here and often add a fixed fee on top, and the gap between the best and worst quote on a single corridor is not small. On a full salary it is worth an afternoon of comparison — and worth re-checking, because the taka has been more volatile since Bangladesh loosened its managed rate in 2025 than the years of near-fixed quotes before it.

What Tk 616,500 a Month Means in Dhaka

Converting the number is the easy half. The half that decides whether the salary is good is what it buys at home. Bangladesh has no single national minimum wage — the Minimum Wage Board notifies a floor sector by sector — so the clearest fixed point is the ready-made garment figure, the country’s largest formal employer: Tk 12,500 a month, effective from December 2023. A $60,000 US salary converts to Tk 616,500 a month, roughly 49.3 times that floor.

$100,000Tk 1,027,50082.2×
$150,000Tk 1,541,250123.3×

Read that multiple carefully. A sector minimum wage is a legal floor for one industry, not a typical salary, and a qualified developer, accountant, or designer in Dhaka earns well above it — so the ratio measures the scale of the currency gap, not how much better off you would be than a colleague. What it does show is why dollar-denominated remote and outsourcing work is worth pursuing from Bangladesh, a country the Oxford Internet Institute’s Online Labour Index has ranked second only to India as a source of online freelance labour: the same output, priced in dollars, converts into a fundamentally different number.

Within Dhaka, the line item that separates one version of the city from another is housing. Gulshan, Banani, and Baridhara — the diplomatic and corporate belt — sit at the top of the range, while Mirpur, Mohammadpur, and the outer stretches of Uttara cost a fraction of it. Unlike the Gulf, rent is normally monthly against an advance deposit rather than a year paid up front, so the barrier to entry is lower, but service charges, generator and lift costs, and utilities are often billed separately from the headline rent. The spread within Dhaka is wide enough that a converted salary can feel transformative in one neighborhood and merely comfortable a few kilometers away.

Two costs a US-shaped budget tends to miss. Traffic is a real expense in Dhaka, not just an inconvenience — proximity to where you work carries a genuine rent premium, and the cheaper neighborhood can quietly cost hours a day. And healthcare and schooling are largely private purchases for anyone earning at this level, so the employer-provided health cover and public schooling a US package assumes are line items here rather than defaults. Price those two before deciding what the converted figure really buys.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a $60,000 US salary in Bangladeshi taka?

At an exchange rate of 1 USD = 123.3 BDT, a $60,000 annual salary is Tk 7,398,000 a year — about 74.0 lakh taka, or Tk 616,500 a month. Across a 2,080-hour work year that is Tk 3,556.73 an hour. That is gross pay: a straight currency conversion, before US or Bangladeshi tax.

What is the USD to BDT exchange rate used here?

This page uses an approximate mid-market rate of 1 USD = 123.3 BDT. Bangladesh moved away from a tightly managed rate toward a more market-determined one during 2025, so the taka now drifts against the dollar rather than sitting still — check a live rate before acting on a specific figure. A one-taka move on a $60,000 salary is Tk 60,000 a year. The rate your bank or transfer provider gives you will also sit below the mid-market rate quoted here.

How do I convert my own US salary to taka?

Multiply the annual dollar figure by 123.3. A $100,000 salary is $100,000 × 123.3 = Tk 12,330,000 a year — about 123.3 lakh taka — or Tk 1,027,500 a month. To go the other way, divide the taka figure by 123.3.

How much is Tk 100,000 a month in US dollars?

Tk 100,000 a month is Tk 1,200,000 a year, which converts to $9,732 at 123.3 taka to the dollar — roughly $811 a month.

Does the 2.5% remittance incentive apply to my dollar earnings?

It depends on which scheme you fall under, and the two are routinely confused. The 2.5% cash incentive — 2% from July 2019, raised to 2.5% on 1 January 2022 — is paid by the government on inward *wage earner* remittance arriving through a bank or a licensed mobile financial service channel. Earnings from freelancing and IT-enabled service exports sit under a separate export cash incentive regime with its own rates, documentation, and eligible-platform rules, which have been revised more than once. If your income is service-export income rather than wage remittance, confirm the current terms with your bank before you count on a specific percentage.

How does a US salary compare with pay in Dhaka?

$60,000 converts to Tk 616,500 a month, roughly 49.3 times the Tk 12,500 monthly minimum wage set for ready-made garment workers, effective December 2023. That is the widest currency gap of any page in this cluster, and it is why dollar-denominated remote work is worth pursuing from Bangladesh. But a sector minimum wage is a legal floor for one industry, not a typical salary — a qualified developer in Dhaka earns well above it — so read the multiple as the scale of the currency gap rather than a like-for-like comparison.

Is this the amount I would actually receive?

No. This is a gross-to-gross currency conversion. A US salary is taxed in the US before it reaches you, income received in Bangladesh carries its own tax treatment under the National Board of Revenue's progressive individual rates, and the transfer itself costs money — providers quote a rate below the mid-market one and often add a fee. The remittance incentive pushes in the other direction. Net it all out before comparing offers.
